What does it matter?

By children

A video series on ecology and sustainable development made for and by children.

An animated series

A series of short films whose stories, texts and images are designed by children on a multitude of subjects depicting our relationship with our planet. The aim of the project is to raise children’s awareness and change their behavior, and that of their loved ones, by making them understand (and explain) the impact of their daily actions on the future. In this way, children become actors in the transmission of scientific knowledge. The series is a resource for teachers, a niche of subjects to tackle in class and a fun way of dealing with the curriculum: arithmetic, oral and written expression, geography, collaborative work…

It’s also a collection of cute little films for families, often amusing, that convey children’s visions of our world and our behaviors, and suggest solutions.

Scientists in schools

“What does it matter?” is made with children in primary schools, by bringing together scientists and teachers.

Financial support is available for project implementation (PEAC, AEFE, rectorats, DRAC, etc.).

A scientist comes into the classroom to provide information about the local ecological context. With the help of their teacher, the children imagine a story based on this scientific information. Using simple means, their drawings and their voices, they create the elements of short animated films that question the consequences of our interactions with our environment.

Collective drawing

In a playful way, the project encourages the learning of scientific data and methods (life sciences, calculation, reflection…) as well as French expression, both written and oral, collective work and the decoding of audiovisual media. Each short episode (2 to 3 minutes) feeds into the series, which is seen by other children and constitutes a living resource for teachers. The series reaches children in a wide variety of areas, enabling them to exchange ideas.

Commitment

The series and the making of show a collective and engaging adventure. Each episode contributes to raising awareness of the fragility of our ecosystems and the importance of a planetary mobilization to preserve them, in which children are the ambassadors and actors.

What does it matter? encourages children to take responsibility for their environment.
Ultimately, the series aims to bring together children from all over the world, to show both the global dimension and the local specificities of ecological issues. Based on sound scientific data.
